Manuscript Monday is a series of blog posts which chronicle the life of my manuscript. It follows the journey I take to turn my week old baby story idea into a fully grown, polished novel. Take the journey with me. 🙂
Happy Snow Day! Happy Snow Day!
Finally a snow day in our town. A perfect, snow blanketed, morning with only the sounds of snow blowers, snow plows, shovels, and sleeping children to remind me that it’s really so…
Our school district doesn’t ever cancel school. I mean hardly ever. We could be buried under 3 feet of snow and it wouldn’t get cancelled unless there’s high wind, ice, and single digit temperatures to go with it. And so today we finally have it. Which means no school!! And just so we’re clear, I’m not usually a fan of blizzards unless all of the chickens are safe in the hen house. And as I write, Prince Charming is working quietly in his office with no need to travel, I am writing from under my blankets, and the kids are home with a bonus day off, so yay! Happy Snow Day! For those of you without a snow day, out there living in this snowmageddon15, please drive slow and be safe. I consider all of you part of my hen house too!
So what to do, what to do on a day like this? Well, I could work on my ghost writing book #2 project that officially begins later this week. I could work on my revisions for ghostwriting book #1 project—but oh that’s right, I finished those Friday night at 10:30! I could work on the revisions of my completed MS… but no.
Today on this bonus day, I’m going to work on this newborn draft! As you know, I’ve struggled to find the time to work on it lately. So I’m taking advantage of the snowball that life has thrown my way…I have my caramel iced coffee ready. I’m wearing my fingerless writing gloves. I’ve already opened the document. How can I pass this opportunity up? Besides, with a winter wonderland right out my window, I’m sure to be inspired with something full of wonderful too!
I have great plans for my writing breaks too. The ALA Youth Media Awards are happening today! Each year the American Library Association honors outstanding books, videos and other materials for children and teens. It’s like the Oscars for the book fanatics everywhere! Some winners have been announced already as I’m writing this, and I keep checking twitter for updates. Definitely check out the action on line or on twitter (#ALAYMA15 ) if you have a chance. It’s so amazing to see great writers honored for their amazing work!
Happy Monday to you all! Have an amazing day. I’ll sign off with one of my favorite Walt Disney quotes…
ALL our dreams can come true—if we have the courage to pursue them.
