LEGO FLAG BUILDER Team Building Activity

I bet you’ve played with LEGOs. Your kids probably have too. But have you ever used LEGOs to improve your team’s collaboration skills? The LEGO FLAG BUILDER activity is a fantastic way to do exactly that. But it’s more challenging than you may think at first glance.

Because everyone knows how to build with LEGO blocks. That means that kids have the tendency to want to take over or recreate each flag on their own. The challenge for them will be to find a way to complete the task as a cohesive group.

Flags of the world are the focus. Therefore, while kids are building both familiar and obscure flags from around the globe, they can also be learning and talking about their corresponding countries—ones they may or may not know anything about. The opportunities for learning about geography, history, and culture are endless.

But most of all, I love this activity because its gets team members talking and strategizing together. It’s fascinating to see how teams divvy up the workload of this task. Do they divide up the flags and work on each individually? Do they divide themselves up by jobs instead? Is one person the color-sorter? Is another the base-builder? Are some team members relegated to building while others become directors? Do they form an assembly line?

Whatever method they choose, it’s a great way to get your team thinking creativity, working together, and playing to each other’s strengths. All things that will help them become successful in competition… and in life.

And if you try it and love it, pass it along to another team. Maybe they’ll benefit from this LEGO-inspired challenge too!
